We're excited to share an amazing video made by our friend, Caleb Young, who joined us on our recent visit our partners at Cafe Granja La Esperanza, a group of three farms in the Valle de Cauca region of Colombia. This video beautifully captures the spirit of the Granja team.
We first became acquainted with Granja's coffees at Sustainable Harvest's Portland cupping lab, where we cupped a Gesha lot from Granja's Cerro Azul farm. We selected this coffee to enter in the Specialty Coffee Association 2014 Roaster's Choice Competition, which our Director of Coffee, Andrew Bowman, won with his roast of Granja's astounding coffee. After the competition, we made plans to visit Granja's farms to see their operation and taste coffees from their latest experiments.
We were aware of Granja's reputation, but we were in no way prepared for what we encountered - an unrivaled dedication to experimentation and attention to detail. What stood out more than anything was the incredible hospitality of the Granja team. In the end, we visited three coffee farms, two wet-mills and one dry-mill in four days, and cupped some of the finest coffees grown in Colombia. It was a jam-packed trip, but we are so thankful for all that we experienced, and we couldn't be more excited for the coffees that we will be roasting from Granja in the coming months.
Stay tuned for more posts from our trip, as well as upcoming special releases from Cafe Granja La Esperanza.
