We made a pretty coffee video.

We couldn't be happier with the short film we made with Bellingham-based Hand Crank Films. The 2-min video highlights the people that make what we do everyday possible. “We have always flown a bit under the radar, so when this project presented itself it seemed like the perfect avenue to share what we do,” said David Yake, Director of Education at Tony’s. The video also shows off the natural beauty of Bellingham. “We wanted to share how much of our inspiration comes from the place we live,” said Andrew Bowman, who moved to Bellingham from San Francisco to roast for Tony’s 10 years ago, and is now their Director of Coffee. The idea for the project sprouted out of a chance encounter at a cupping that Tony’s was co-hosting at Onyx Coffee Bar. Caleb Young, who happens to be an avid specialty coffee drinker, was filming the cupping. After many conversations over many cups of coffee, the filming began. The whole process was a lot of fun and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had the chance to partner with the amazing folks at Hand Crank Films.

A word about the esteemed-director: Caleb Young graduated from Western Washington University in 2005 with a BA in Creative-Writing and Minor in Film. Since then, Caleb has produced and directed 5 independent feature films and other personal projects, receiving several Awards and an Official Selection to SIFF. For work, Caleb has spent over 3 years directing for Hand Crank Films where he has created several Award-Winning commercials, including a Gold Addy. He lives in Bellingham with his wife and daughter, who is also the star of one of Caleb’s side-projects: Coffee with Callie. Here’s what Caleb had to say about the Tony’s project: “We could've gone the serious route, with dramatic music and dialogue, but that's not what Tony's is. Yes, they make great coffee, but they are more than that; they are an amazing group of people who are not only good at what they do, but have fun doing it. And we wanted the video to reflect that.”
